Quiet living in the Kattenbroek district
Kattenbroek is a district in the city of Amersfoort, in the province of Utrecht. The district, built in the early 1990s, contains approximately 4600 dwellings. The district was built in the outer area of the former municipality of Hoogland and named after the farm located just outside the district. The starting point for the design was to build a non-standard residential area.

Designer Ashok Bhalotra wanted a healthy, safe and cheerful environment, where people feel at home and get jitters to dream. He has used themes and metaphors, something that has been used more often in urban planning since that moment.

For example, the main structure of the district is characterized by certain geometric shapes, consisting of five elements: The Ring, De Laan der Hoven, The Hidden Zone, The Mask and The Creek. The Ring is the centralcircular neighbourhood, the size of the historic city centre of Amersfoort. Here, different themes come together, as well as De Laan der Hoven and The Hidden Zone. The Avenue der Hoven is a road that runs from the northwest to the southeast through the district. The Hidden Zone runs from north to south across the district, where there are 12 works of art. The Mask forms the eastern border of the district with a long curved line. The Creek, located in the north of the district, connects the scattered original farms.

In addition to the 5 elements, there are also 5 living themes: The Closed City, The Fort, The Farm Room, The Bridge Houses and Living to Winter Gardens, 5 landscapes: Water, Pond, Forest, Field and Marsh and 5 urban morphologists: Avenue, Singel, Plein, Steeg and Straat.

In the Kattenbroek district is located this small-scale residential complex. The complex consists of 24 rental apartments, 2 of which fall into the free sector. The remaining 22 dwellings are social rented housing.

The homes
The complex consists of 24 dwellings. Each home has a living room with open kitchen, at least 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with toilet, and a storage room. The apartments on the ground floor have a garden. The apartments/maisonettes on the floors are equipped with a large balcony. In addition, you have your own storage room on the ground floor. Not all apartments are threshold free. An elevator is present in the conservatory/atrium. Each property has an intercom, so you know who you're letting in.
